Green Shoots Welcome Spring in the Impact Bond Market

April 23, 2024 — After 2022 saw the first contraction in global impact bond issuance in 10 years, 2023 issuance rebounded to just under $1 trillion of green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked bonds (GSSS) worldwide. Growth in the GSSS market has been driven by the issuance of green bonds, which posted a record year in 2023. The first quarter of 2024 also saw record global growth in green bonds, which were up 6.5% year over year at $190 billion. S&P is predicting up to $1.05 trillion in GSSS issuance for 2024, close to the record set in 2021.
